Driveway outline

Here's a rough outline of the driveway up to the barn. If the barn were there, you'd be looking in one of the large, end doors.

  1. Hi, Shelley,

Can you tell us a bit more about your plans? I'm interested in how large a barn you're doing, how many horses you plan to house on how large an acreage, what sort of runs/turnout you plan, are you doing a ring etc. What were your sources of inspiration for the barn and layout? What sort of stall and alley surface are you planning? Thanks!

  2. Most of your questions will be answered in future posts... however, here are a few answers! We did not need to plan for a riding ring. Besides lots of open fields and trails, we have a great indoor arena right next door, where weeknights, anyone may ride and practice for a very minimal fee. My husband and I have worked out of many different style barns over the years. I really wanted each horse to have a run of their own, as we are working folks, and can't run home to put horses in or out depending on weather (more on the runs later!). Our budget dictated much of the design decisions, such as barn size. Originally, we planned to build a 30'x32', but found that a 30'x40' was only $1,000 more, so we went with the larger size. STAY TUNED!!
